Keeping your rugs looking fabulous!
Most of us like at least one rug in our home, even if we have carpets. We want to keep them looking as brand new as possible, for as long as possible! Because after all, a worn and stained rug doesn’t do much for our sense of style does it?
As rug cleaning specialists, we know how to keep your rugs looking as good as new, so here are our top rug cleaning tips.
1. Selecting your rug
If you already have your quota of rugs, then you can bypass this tip! But if you are still in buying mode then make sure to buy a good quality rug. Thin, light materials don’t stand the test of time well, instead look for a durable material such as wool (or nylon if your budget is limited). Dark colours are better at appearing clean than lighter colours and patterns also disguise any stains.
2. Bare feet rules!
One of the best strategies for protecting your quality rugs is to stop people trampling dirt into the house and the best way to do this, is to make sure that everyone removes their shoes. This doesn’t work for everyone, but we are increasingly seeing families that expect everyone to leave their shoes at the door as they enter their home. If this doesn’t work for you, then make sure everyone wipes their feet as they enter.
3. Regular vacuuming
The more people walking through your home, the more dirt is brought in, resulting in stained and damaged rugs. You might have to vacuum daily if you have heavy traffic through your home, but a weekly vacuum might be enough to keep your rugs looking good.
4. Treat stains
Always blot stains with a clean white rag immediately, as leaving it to sink in or using a scrubbing motion makes the stain worse. You might need a professional clean for some stains, but the quicker it’s fixed the better.
5. Move your rugs
To ensure that one or two rugs don’t become more worn than others, rotate them throughout your home. If this doesn’t work for you, then actually rotate them 180 degrees so that one part of the rug doesn’t become more worn than another part.
